I went back to work when Ava was only 4 months old. I was determained to never let Ava have formula . Due to the fact my father died of Crohns Disease . Breast feeding has many benifets and one of them was to reduce the chance that your baby will ever get crohns. I had great success with this pump, I was done pumping in about 10 to 5 minutes and Ava is know almost 10 months and she has been only on breast milk. This has made me very happy and I plan to nurse to a year .
What can I say, I think the Medela is the pump to have - it is after all one that is used quite frequently by hospitals. The two modes are great and compliemnt each other. The stimulation mode worked really well for me as it helped with my let down. The suction power was great as it gave me control with how strong I needed to pump. The parts are easy to clean and to assemble. I had borrowed the pump before I caved to buy one. The Medela is pricy so I ended up buying the Medela. How does it compare? it's like learning to drive on a Cadillac and then using a Lada - I was spoiled by the Medela. The Ameda for one had too many parts to assemble and clean, the stimulation mode was not as effective as the Medela and the suction mode, although can be adjusted, just didn't extract as much milk from me as the Medela. It took me longer to pump milk with the Ameda than with the Medela. However, the Ameda was 1/2 the price. If you plan to pump a lot, then the Medela is probably worth buying, but if you only plan to pump on occasion than the Ameda would probably suffice.
I've had this pump now for a couple years and I absolutely love it. The ability to single or double pump is fantastic! I love that there is a "stimulation" mode as well as the regular to help with your let down reflex. The option to adjust speeds/suction is great as well. Parts are super easy to clean and I'd never had any problems with it. The only thing I don't like about it is that the motor takes up a good portion of the space in the bag, so you can't really use this as your diaper bag. If you were going somewhere for a short period of time, it would work, but if you have to keep a lot of things in it, it wouldn't get the job done. Fantastic pump. I've also used the mini-electric, which I found to be quite painful because you couldn't adjust the suction. It was just on or off. So if you are pumping quite frequently (I had to pump all my milk), I would HIGHLY recommend this pump or one of the similar models (backpack, freestyle, etc).
